IHCS RTO offers Nationally Recognised Training Courses for people wanting to obtain work in the home care, aged care and disability sectors.  The full qualification currently offered by IHCS RTO is the Certificate III in Individual Support – our brochure is available via the attachment.

This course is designed to provide students with a combination of classroom theory, simulated learning opportunities and practical work placement to develop the competencies required to work in the industry. Recognition of Prior Learning is also available.  Our courses are offered on a part-time basis, and are offered twice per year.

As students may be able to join a course after it has commenced, we encourage you to contact us at any time to discuss your individual needs.

In addition, the RTO offers Units of Competency and Skill Sets, such as Medication Skill Set, First Aid and CPR for Support Workers. We invite you to contact our Coordinator of Training Services on 6272 3696 to discuss your options and career pathway.

Funding assistance may be available to those students who meet the criteria for funding.


Available courses

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is a nationally recognized qualification in Australia designed to prepare individuals for careers in aged care, disability support, and other community care settings. Here is a summary of the key aspects of the course:

Course Overview

  • Purpose: The course aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to provide person-centred support to individuals due to ageing, disability, or other circumstances.
  • Delivery Modes: The course is offered in various formats including face-to-face, online, blended learning, and work-based training

Core Components

  • Units of Competency: The course typically includes 15 units—9 core units and 6 elective units. Core units cover topics such as individualised support, empowerment of people receiving support, independence and wellbeing, healthy body systems, communication in health services, working with diverse people, legal and ethical work practices, infection prevention, and safe work practices.
  • Specialisations: Students can choose specialisations in Ageing, Disability, or a combination of both. Each specialisation requires specific elective units.

Practical Experience

  • Work Placement: A minimum of 120 hours of practical work placement is mandatory. This hands-on experience is crucial for applying theoretical knowledge in real-world settings and is often facilitated by the training provider.

Career Outcomes

  • Job Roles: Graduates can pursue careers as Personal Care Assistants, Home Carers, Residential Support Workers, Aged Care Support Workers, and Disability Support Workers.
  • Further Education: The qualification can serve as a pathway to higher-level courses such as Certificate IV in Disability Support, Certificate IV in Ageing Support, and Diploma of Nursin

Entry Requirements

  • General Requirements: There are generally no formal prerequisites, but some providers may require a minimum level of education (e.g., completion of Grade 10-12) and a functional grasp of English.
  • Checks and Clearances: Students must complete a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Check, and provide evidence of vaccinations (e.g., influenza, COVID-19) before commencing work placement.
